A beautiful memory.
VOICE 4 GIRLS
Voice4girls is a three phase camp. I attended the second-phase. I want to share the beautiful memories I created in the 10 days of the camp. My location was at Thorrur-Warangal. We have to teach the girls who come from Telangana Welfare Schools from various places. Each location will have 8-10 teachers or counsellors. Our location had 9 counsellors and one field-coordinator (FC).
While going to the location I was a bit scared. I was worried about the accommodation and food. I was a bit nervous and was not sure whether I will be able to control the kids or no. But after reaching the school.... I was very excited and happy.
First....let me talk about my co-counsellors.
All nine of them are amazing and are real fun to be with. I loved each one's company and very much delighted to have them around me.And talking about the kids......they are marvellous. My day never started without wishing them good morning and it never ended without sending them to their dorms and biding them a bye!! From the type of bindi I put to which sandals I wear, from which colour dress I wore to what watch I put.....they observe everything. They can even say which dresses I wore in these ten days. What a powerful memory that have!!
I always wished to become a teacher. Yes. I am happy to have them as my students. In fact like my kids.
These students are not blessed. Some don't have their father, some don't have mother, some don't have a proper family, some don't have a life they wanted to have. Even though, they have so many problems, they will always carry a smile on their lips. And watching those smiles, I will even forget my life's hardest problems too.
These kids walk inside the school without any footwear. When asked they said "Akka, School is like a temple. And we don't wear chappal into a temple. So that's why we never wear chappal in schools. And you teachers are goddesses and goddesses can wear chappal". This reply left me teary-eyed. My manners never match theirs. My behavior can never be better than theirs.
Their hearts are pure. They may not have beautiful faces. But they have very beautiful souls.
Yes, they are naughty.
Yes, they will not listen to my words.
Yes, they are annoying sometimes.
But.........they are always lovely.
Making them sing, dance, listen to classes was most difficult task ever. But grabbing their attention was very easy. Tell them I am leaving the class, they'll sit silent. Because they never want their Akka to leave them and go.
They keep singing songs to impress me, they write letters to see me blushing.....and whatnot!!!! Even my own sister never loved me so much.
Yeah, I am not their first teacher, but they are surely my first students. I became very attached and more connected to them within these ten days. We were like a family. A family of 31 members. Asking questions, performing energizers with them became my daily routine. Now, its very hard to me to digest the fact that I can't see or talk to them anymore.
Besides the kids, even the school management and staff became close to us. The food was amazing and our accommodation was wonderful. We loved and enjoyed the company of everyone present in the school.
At the end of the camp, along with the campers, Thorrur school girls who helped us, everyone was in tears.
I am generally emotional, and leaving the kids and going off was very, very sad.
Yeah I miss those kids....
Before telling a good-bye, I want to tell one thing. Now I don't have any contact with them. But in future, I surely want to see them fly high with beautiful colours and happy lives. I wish wherever they are, they should be happy and blissful.
And thank you VOICE4GIRLS for giving me such a nice opportunity.
Love
SISIRA
